We are committed to respecting your privacy. This statement explains our policy regarding the personal information we collect from you from forms you complete and submit to us, information you provide to us over the telephone and/or in connection with your use of our website. Who we are

We are The Mater Foundation, trading as The Mater Hospital Foundation, an Irish Registered Charity – CHY9768, CRO 108518, RCN 20024505. We were established in 1985 as the official fundraising body of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
For the purposes of GDPR, the data controller is The Mater Hospital Foundation as defined above.

How this policy works

We may be collecting personal information from you because you are:

  • A donor/supporter using the Website/service to make a donation in order to light an individual or corporate star and leave a message of support

What information do we collect?

When you use our service to light a Words of Light star, post content and make a donation, we will need to collect personal information about you. Personal information is information that can be used to identify you such as name or address.

We may collect and use the following kinds of personal information: name, email address, postal address, telephone number, mobile telephone number. We may also collect personal information if you purchase additional products or services from us.

We will also collect information on how you interact with our website, in memory pages and dedications that are shared through our service. This information helps us to make our service easier to use for the people who visit it and may include your IP address, geographical region and other traffic and communication data. We also use Cookies to collect data – refer to our Cookie Policy - Mater Foundation.

If you use your credit or debit card to make a donation or pay for additional services, we will need to share your data with a third party to enable this processing. We will ensure that this is done securely and in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard and we do not store your payment card details.

If you are using our service on behalf of someone else, either as a user or a Page Administrator, then before you disclose the personal information of another person you must obtain that person’s consent to both the disclosure of their personal information and its use in accordance with this privacy policy.

  • to process any donation(s) we may receive from you;

  • to analyse and improve the services we offer;

Your data and consent to marketing

If you donate to light a virtual Words of Light Star and add a dedication to the site, then as part of this process we may ask for your consent for the recipient entity to contact you for marketing purposes.  The organisation will describe what your consent is being sought for and allow channel specific consent to be provided (such as e-mail and/or telephone).

Where we collect your personal information from

We will collect personal information from a number of sources. These include the following:

  • Directly from you: when complete electronic and/or paper forms we provide to you, contact us by phone, email or communicate with us directly in some other way.
  • Our Website: provides us with information about how you use it and the devices in your home that you connect to it.
  • Our payment provider: will provide details as to whether your payment has been accepted.

Who we share your personal information with

  • Other service providers and advisors: such as companies that support our IT, help us analyse the data we hold, send communications to our customers, provide us with legal or financial advice and generally help us deliver our services to you.
  • The Government or our regulators: where we are required to do so by law or to assist with their investigations.

Security

Our website has numerous security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of information under our control, such as passwords and firewalls. We cannot, however, guarantee that these measures are, or will remain, adequate. We do, however, take data security very seriously and will use all reasonable endeavours to protect the integrity of the information you provide.

Transfers outside the EU/EEA

Some of the 3rd Party services or suppliers we use are based outside the EU/EEA. Transfers of data to these parties is conducted in line with the relevant Data Protection Laws and is kept under constant review.

For entities in the United States, we rely on either Privacy Shield or Model Contract Clauses as the basis for transfers. The Mater Hospital Foundation takes all necessary organisational and technical security measures to secure the personal data that we process.

Exercising your right as a data subject

As a Data Subject you have a variety of rights under EU law. These include:

  • The Right to be told if data about you is being processed, and for what purpose
  • The Right to receive a copy of all data the Mater Foundation holds about you
  • The Right to object to your data being processed for a given purpose
  • The Right to object to your data being included in any form of data profiling
  • The right to have errors in the data we hold about you corrected
  • The right to have data about you deleted, except where we have a valid overriding reason for keeping it.
